Our Top Ten Ways To Fill A Notebook

Hands up if you’re a notebook junkie? Here at Foundry Fifty we obviously love a good notebook, I mean, they’re a huge portion of what we do! Whether you prefer hardcover or softcover, there’s just something about putting pen to paper on a brand new page. Here are some of our favourite ways to fill notebooks!

1. Lists

To do lists, shopping lists, books to read, tv shows and films to watch, bucket list - the list is endless.

2. Bullet Journal

This method of journalling has taken people by storm. People just love it. It definitely helps with productivity and there’s really nothing to it once you get started - and it’s fully customisable to your own life. Learn the system here. Who’s tried it?

3. Planning

I think we can all agree that everything goes much smoother with a plan. Whether it’s an event such as a conference or a wedding, or you just like to write down your daily plans - from meetings to dentists appointments, having a plan in place is key. Plus, getting everything out of your head and onto paper is SOOO satisfying.

4. Morning pages

I’m sure some of you will have idea what ‘Morning Pages’ are but for those that don’t, basically they are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, ideally done first thing in the morning as soon as you wake up. It’s a fantastic way to fill a notebook (and surprisingly quickly I might add - three pages of writing is no joke!) and also just a brilliant way to kick-start your brain in the morning. It doesn’t have to be artfully written, just get pen to paper and see what comes out.

5. Dream diary

Similar to morning pages, why not use a notebook to jot down your dreams? Whether you’re interested in the psychology behind dreams, or just want to write down the funny or down-right ridiculous dreams you may have, a dream journal can be something fun to look back on.

6. Memory Book

There’s something special about looking in an old notebook and seeing how much you’ve changed. Who had a lockable diary when they were younger? Major throwback! So, why not dedicate a whole notebook to memories. You could write down something small that happened during the day, or a more detailed account of a huge event you’d like to remember forever. It’s something that might be fun to look around the New Year and remember all the good times you’ve shared with the people you love over the year.

7. Recipe Book

Yes, I know, we all tend to get recipes online nowadays. Or, for those of us that like actual recipe books, have about a hundred sticky notes on pages that we’re meaning to try. So, what do you do when you’ve tried and tested a recipe and love it? Write it down in a notebook. It’s the perfect way to make sure you never lose a recipe and have to go through the whole process again (because who likes that?!)

8. Gratitude Journal

Express what you’re grateful for everyday by writing down a sentence a day, or even a list of 3 positive things about your day. It’s such a good practice to get into and means you go to bed feeling thankful.

9. Travel Journal

Want to document all your travels? How about a notebook per destination if you travel a lot. It’s a great way to write down observations about a different culture, reflect on places you’ve loved and would go back to, or places you haven’t enjoyed as much as you expected to. All your recommendations and tips are safely kept in one place for a return trip or to pass on to someone visiting after you!

10. Health / Exercise / Food Journal

Another excuse for a new notebook! Keeping track of your food, exercise, and health information can help you get realistic measures of your food intake and health changes so that you can find the specifics that work best for you and repeat them. Also, keeping a log can be super helpful for pinpointing any food intolerances or allergies.
